From 9 to 12 October 2027, the City of Maricá, Brazil, will host the 8th edition of the GSEF Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum: MaricáGSEF2027.

Following Seoul, Montreal, Bilbao, Mexico City, Dakar and Bordeaux, this new edition will continue the international momentum of the GSEF Global Forums, which bring together every two years local and national governments, Social and Solidarity Economy actors, networks, international institutions and partners, experts, researchers and people committed to the SSE.

Co-organized by the Prefeitura de Maricá and the GSEF, MaricáGSEF2027 will focus on the theme:

“Social, Solidarity and Popular Economy: An economy that belongs to families and people, rooted in local knowledge and the protection of nature.”

MaricáGSEF2027 thematic areas

The Forum’s discussions and activities will focus on the following thematic areas:
1. Poverty Eradication
2. Food Security and Sovereignty
3. Lasting Peace
4. Solidarity-Based, Ethical and Local Finance
5. Public Policies Supporting SSE
6. Youth
7. Fighting climate change and protecting biodiversity
8. Traditional and Ancestral Knowledge
9. Research and the Generation of Evidence

A key cross-cutting theme is the integration of gender equality and equity, which will shape and inform all of the contributions.

GSEF Global Forums

Held every two years, the GSEF Global SSE Forums are major opportunities for meeting, dialogue and cooperation around the Social and Solidarity Economy.

Their main objectives include:

• bringing together elected officials and leaders from around the world, international experts, representatives of development agencies, networks and grassroots actors committed to promoting people-centred economic models that respect the environment;
• fostering the exchange of experiences and expertise developed across all continents, through a co-constructed programme and formats designed to encourage diverse perspectives, debate and the sharing of practices;
• building common commitments to advance the Social and Solidarity Economy. Each Forum thus helps define political orientations and collective priorities for the years ahead.

Over the years, these gatherings have strengthened cooperation between territories and SSE actors, given international visibility to local initiatives, and contributed to greater recognition of the Social and Solidarity Economy in public policies and international agendas.

From Bordeaux to Maricá

The designation of Maricá as the host city for the 2027 edition marks a new chapter in the history of the GSEF Global Forums.
On 30 October 2025, during BordeauxGSEF2025, GSEF members gathered at the General Assembly selected the City of Maricá to host the next Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum in 2027.

This designation marked the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the GSEF, the Prefeitura de Maricá and the Brazilian Social and Solidarity Economy ecosystem, focused on the preparation of MaricáGSEF2027 and the mobilization of the GSEF’s international network.

MaricáGSEF2027 is taking shape

The call for contributions, registration details, Forum programme and practical information will be gradually announced as preparations for the event move forward.
