About GSEF (Global Social Economy Forum)

Established in 2013, GSEF is an international association of local governments and civil society networks engaged in the promotion of social economy as a mean to achieve an inclusive and sustainable local development. Through the collaboration between social economy organizations and local governments, GSEF pursues the creation of quality jobs, fair growth, progress of grassroots democracy, and sustainable development. 

GSEF operates in 5 key areas:

  • International advocacy

One of GSEF’s flagship projects is a biannual international forum gathering its member cities and organizations from across the continents. It is one of the most prestigious international gatherings in the area of social economy, bringing together all stakeholders from international organizations, local/central governments and civil society networks. The 5th edition of the Global Social Economy Forum (GSEF2018) will take place in Mexico City, Mexico, in 2020.

The Secretariat of GSEF is based in Seoul.

Timeline for the selection process

Deadline to apply: March 25, 2019

Interview: March 27~28, 2019, via Skype or phone. French or Spanish will be used as the main interview language. Interview arrangements will only be made with shortlisted candidates.

The duration of the internship is for a period between two and six months, on a full or part-time basis (negotiable), starting as soon as possible.

Working Conditions

Working hours: 09:00-18:00, from Monday to Friday (negotiable)
Monthly internship allowance will be provided based on the 2018 internal audit regulation of the GSEF Secretariat.
 

Qualifications

  • Students and recent graduates in a discipline related to the work of GSEF
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is essential (communication with partners in French/Spanish speaking regions required). An excellent command of spoken and written English is a must. 
  • Understanding on SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and knowledge of and exposure to social and solidarity economy (SSE) would be an advantage. Experience working on international cooperation projects or in an international institution would be an added advantage.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and with minor supervision
  • Attention to details

Main responsibilities

  1. To assist with the preparation and the organization of capacity building trainings which will be held in Africa and South America between April and August 2019.
  2. To support ongoing communication efforts by assisting with the monthly newsletter, the production of contents for GSEF’s social media platforms, and communications with partners and GSEF members, especially in French/Spanish speaking regions.
  3. To contribute to research projects on social economy policy conducted in collaboration with international organizations (data collection and analysis etc).
  4. Other tasks as required, including translation and preparation of documents.
